This book is an absolute bargain. Barron’s walks you through the theories behind each core area of the ASVAB and, rather than having practice questions all come at the end, integrates them into each chapter so that you can check your progress along the way. Each section is very detail-oriented, ensuring that you won’t miss anything you might encounter on the exam. The book comes with four full-length exams, two additional exams on an included CD and an unusually thorough guide to the “assembling objects” component of the exam, one of the hardest to master. There’s also a section on analyzing your scores once you’ve taken the exam, and to see how your aptitudes will prepare you for (or hinder you from) various military career paths. Unfortunately, this book doesn’t come with flashcards or diagrams, so you might want to supplement your studies with another book on our list.
It's important to understand the difference between the ASVAB Standard Scores, and the ASVAB AFQT score. Test takers will receive a separate score for each of the nine sections on the ASVAB. These scores are known as Standard Scores. A Standard Score is used to determine how the test taker compares to the "average" 18-23 year old American on that part of the ASVAB. Not long ago, a large number of people in this age group were given the tests, and these results are the benchmark for Standard Scores. Around half the people in this age group will score a 50 or higher, and about 16% will score a 60 or higher. In other words, the scoring is based on a standard bell curve distribution. Standard Scores are very important when it comes to determining which military job a person will be assigned to.
When you are considered a career in the military you need to take the ASVAB test. But each branch of the military has different ASVAB requirements that you need to meet. They are different levels of education that you must reach to take the test. But you also need to score a certain amount of points on that ASVAB test to gain access into the branch you desire.

I glanced through this book as well as a few others at a book store. This book had four practice tests, whereas most others only had three. I liked that, so I bought it. However, once I started to take the tests and read the review material, I noticed that this book has a deplorable number of mistakes. I DO NOT recommend buying this book unless you are trying to play a cruel joke on someone who is trying to join the military.
No matter how hard you study for the ASVAB, you’ll likely come across a few questions where you don’t have a clue. Guess wisely, and you can score extra points on many ASVAB subtests. If you leave a question blank, you have a 0 percent chance of getting it right, but if you guess, you have at least a 25 percent chance. Here are a few quick pointers on guessing:

Now, one page over while showing how to multiply decimals, which is the same thing, they fail to do this and obtain a wrong answer. I'm a laid back guy and all, but I mean come on. That's pathetic. There is more, but this should suffice. After I found quite a few errors like this I just couldn't bring myself trust the other info in the book. I bought "Asvab for Dummies" and have found not one error in it.

0-9 No entrenable El Congreso de los EE. UU.

The ASVAB test can be taken at your school or a MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Stations) or MET (Mobile Examination Test) sites.  When the ASVAB is administered at your school, it is usually part of the Student Testing Program or Career Exploration Program.  When the ASVAB is given at MEPS or MET sites, it is part of the Enlistment Testing Program.  The ASVAB test content is the same no matter where you take it, except that you will not have to take the Assembling Objects test if you take the test at your school (as part of the Student Testing Program).  When you take the test in the Student Testing Program you will receive three composite scores (Verbal Skills, Math Skills, and Science and Technical Skills).  When you take the ASVAB as part of the Enlistment Testing Program, you will receive an AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score and Service composite scores.  These scores are used for assigning your military job.
The adaptive test is exactly what it sounds like, a test that adapts to the test taker. Questions in each section range in difficulty, and based on the test taker’s answers, the question types and difficulties adjust with each answer. This type of test allows for a greater level of accuracy in evaluating a prospect’s abilities. For the most part, correct answers beget more difficult questions while wrong answers will reduce the difficulty of proceeding questions.
