I bought this book and ASVAB AVQT for Dummies for my son who was (at the time and now IS) going into the Navy when he graduates this year. I was skeptical at first, wondering if 1. he would actually use them and 2. would they really help him get a better score. He had a VERY high goal score because the particular job he wanted to qualify for required a high score. We were not disappointed. I helped him study, we didn't need flash cards or anything else, just these books! Well, he made the score for the job he wanted. Great books, worth the investment unless you just want to coast (see what I did there?) by and pass. I have to add, I'm so proud of my son! GO NAVY!
High school and postsecondary students can also take the ASVAB test as part of the Department of Defense’s Career Exploration Program. This paper-and-pencil version of the test is the same as the paper-and-pencil enlistment version but excludes the Assembling Objects section. It is intended to help those students considering a career in the military to discover their strengths in both military and civilian jobs. If the student scores high enough in the AFQT section of the test, he may use the score to enlist within the two-year expiration window.
The vast majority of people who take the CAT-ASVAB test finish it as the time constraints are not very aggressive. However, if a respondent isn’t able to finish in time, the remaining unanswered questions are scored as if the respondent had answered them randomly. This is obviously not an ideal way to finish up the test and most often results in even poorer scores.
After adopting the test in 1976 the test became a way of indicating whether or not an individual was 100% qualified to serve. As previously mentioned this aptitude test has a colorful history. That is because it underwent a dramatic change in 2002 and another dramatic change in 2004. The change that occurred in 2002 expanded the categories of the test and the overall difficulty.
