In order to perform well on the ASVAB, you should take a practice test to get an idea of what you’ll encounter on the actual test. Also, completing a practice test will help you to feel more at ease on test day. Reading the test instructions and focusing your full attention on each question are both important steps to take. As you work through the test, avoid spending too much time on a single question. The test has a time limit and you don’t want to fall into the trap of running out of time before you arrive at the end of the test. Taking the time to provide thoughtful answers to test questions allows you to offer a clear picture of your skills and capabilities. Earning a high score on the ASVAB may give you more options when it comes to choosing a specialty.

If you are thinking of joining the military, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB, is one of the most important tests you will take in your career. The score you get will determine what jobs you will be eligible for in the armed services and whether you are allowed to enlist in the first place. If you want to ace the exam, you will likely need to set aside at least two months to prepare. Along with a steady studying routine and a quiet place to work, you will want to arm yourself with the best preparation books available. So read on to find the best ASVAB prep books to buy today.

I bought this book and ASVAB AVQT for Dummies for my son who was (at the time and now IS) going into the Navy when he graduates this year. I was skeptical at first, wondering if 1. he would actually use them and 2. would they really help him get a better score. He had a VERY high goal score because the particular job he wanted to qualify for required a high score. We were not disappointed. I helped him study, we didn't need flash cards or anything else, just these books! Well, he made the score for the job he wanted. Great books, worth the investment unless you just want to coast (see what I did there?) by and pass. I have to add, I'm so proud of my son! GO NAVY!
Reading page after page of boring content can cause the strongest minds to wander. Taking practice tests are a great way to break up the monotony of studying. Taking a practice test challenges you and keeps you interested in the material. Then you can review your test results and go over the questions you got wrong committing the right answer to memory. It’s a great, streamlined way to learn.

Your ASVAB scores determine what jobs you will qualify for in the military. But before you embarrass yourself in front of active duty service members, know that a job in the Army and the Marine Corps is called an MOS, which is an acronym for Military Occupational Specialty. In the Air Force, jobs are called AFSC – Air Force Specialty Code. In the Navy they are known as an NEC - Navy Enlisted Classification and the Coast Guard, jobs are called ratings, or rate for short.
We took the diagnostic tests (all of them) and found so many errors it was appalling. For many of the arithmetic reasoning questions, the correct answer is not even listed, and when you look at the answer explanations, they are very odd. One told me that from 6:30 am to 11:15 am is five hours. Last time I checked, that's 4 hours and 45 minutes. The paragraph comprehension sections always have issues, and the word knowledge is ridiculous.
The ASVAB was created in 1968. By 1976, all branches of the military began using this test. In 2002, the test underwent many revisions, but its main goal of gauging a person’s basic skills remained the same. Today, there is a computerized version of the test as well as a written version. The Department of Defense developed this test and it’s taken by students in thousands of schools across the country. It is also given at Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS).

The Mechanical Comprehension section of the ASVAB practice test measures your understanding of basic mechanical principles and mechanisms. You may be asked why an intake valve on a pump opens when the piston goes down, or what direction friction is going when shown a diagram of a skier. The CAT-ASVAB has 16 questions in 20 minutes; the paper-and-pencil version has 25 questions in 19 minutes.

The vast majority of people who take the CAT-ASVAB test finish it as the time constraints are not very aggressive. However, if a respondent isn’t able to finish in time, the remaining unanswered questions are scored as if the respondent had answered them randomly. This is obviously not an ideal way to finish up the test and most often results in even poorer scores.

Your choice of military career depends on your success on the ASVAB. Those looking to score the highest will use an ASVAB Test Study Guide for an overall review and back this up with a set of ASVAB Test Flashcards to drill down on problem areas. Responsibility is a key value of our nation's military, and the first step is taking responsibility for your own ASVAB preparation.
After adopting the test in 1976 the test became a way of indicating whether or not an individual was 100% qualified to serve. As previously mentioned this aptitude test has a colorful history. That is because it underwent a dramatic change in 2002 and another dramatic change in 2004. The change that occurred in 2002 expanded the categories of the test and the overall difficulty. This can be seen by the addition of all of the diverse categories below:
